Brownies Space Adventure!

On Sunday 8th March 2009 1st Northowram Brownies along with St Michael's Brownies from Shelf experienced a Space Adventure at Eureka! the Museum for Children in Halifax.

During the morning we had free time to explore Eureka! which the girls really enjoyed.  They also had chance to get something from the gift shop.

After lunch our Space Adventure began with a journey into space in an orange rocket.  The Brownies learnt some things about space and the different planets that make up the solar system.  This was acted out using different shapes, sizes and colours of balls, representing the planets, which the girls held up.

The girls met the commander of the rocket and his assistant (two Eureka staff dressed in boiler suits and silly wigs!!) who taught the girls how to say

'Hello', 'Goodbye', 'Yes', 'No' and 'Thank you' using silly words and actions.

The girls loved it!

After our trip into space the girls and leaders entered a large silver dome and had a talk from an astronomer from York. During the session the different constellations were projected onto the ceiling of the dome – it was fascinating!

The day ended with all the groups who had attended having a short feedback session on how the day had gone. The day was tiring but enjoyed by everyone and it is well worth going to.

Each Brownie was awarded their Stargazer badge too.
