Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section members
and Leaders from Kingston District
dug up an area of West View Park near to New Hope Church,
Highroad Well, this week-end (21.11.2009) and
planted 30 native hedgerow trees and spring flowering bulbs.
As a district we have been collecting Sainsbury's Active Kids tokens for the past few years and cashing them in for cooking equipment that we can all use
during our weekly meetings. This year we were very surprised to receive a letter from Sainsburys congratulating us on being one of the lucky organisations to receive a free pack of 30 trees.
The trees were donated by the Woodland Trust and as it is our Centenary year we thought it an ideal time to plant them. We have been told the trees and shrubs are all native broad leaved which means, that with a little luck, they will be growing on well into the next century – when the children’s grandchildren will be able to inspect their handiwork.

We have all used this activity towards our Centenary Adventure 100 challenge.
Many thanks to everyone who helped on the morning and a special thank you to Stuart and Peter from Calderdale Parks & Gardens for their help in finding us an area to do the planting, providing us with the spring flowering bulbs and also helping us during the morning.

Even though it was a cold, wet November morning
everyone still had lots of fun.
