Brownie Holiday at Bradley Wood

In August 2008 23 Brownies and 6 leaders from 15th Halifax Holy Trinity Brownies had a 2 night holiday at Bradley Wood Scout centre near Brighouse. Each girl writes a diary in order to obtain her badge - here is Kethaki's account of her Brownie Holiday.

My Brownie Holiday Diary

Tuesday 19th August 2008

On Tuesday, we arrived at Bradley Wood for our Brownie Pack Holiday. We had a great time that day. First, after our parents had left, we had a safety talk.

We were told what we should do when the fire alarm goes off and other safety rules.

Next we made table decorations as well as decorating the flower pots we made the paper flower to go in it.

We also made a woodland nought and crosses game.

Later on, we had supper. Everyone had soup. I had tomato soup. Soon, we got ready for bed. We got dressed and brushed our teeth. Afterwards, we sang some fun and silly songs. Most of the songs were really funny. Finally, it was bed. We went to bed and had a good sleep.

Wednesday 20th August 2008

The next day we woke up. While we were waiting to have our breakfast, we had a chat. A little while later, we had our breakfast. I had rice crispies and toast with jam. After that we washed up. Sooner or later, we cleaned our teeth and got ready for activities.

We played two games of patball. Our team won the first game and lost the second. Followed by a craft session - decorating tea towels with fabric pens.

Afterwards, we had our lunch. I had chips, beans and a slice of bread. We didn’t have to wash up this time.

We then did Archery. It was great fun as I hit the red twice!

Next we did the low ropes assault course. We got into groups. Our group lost. We then had a bit of free time in the ropes.

As soon as we came back, we had a chocolate fountain and a fruit kebab. I wasn’t allowed chocolate so I just had a fruit kebab.

A few minutes later, we had a trail. We had to answer the questions and collect some objects.

Following this we had our party tea. It was called party tea because it was

Lucy R’s 9th Birthday. We all had sandwiches, crisps and a drink.

The next stage onwards, we had a camp fire. We were singing some humorous songs with a pack of Guides led by the Scouters from Bradley Woods. It wasn’t exactly a camp fire (because we didn't have a fire as it was raining), but we called it one because it happened outdoors. Eventually it was bed time, we got ready and had even more sleep. I had corn on the cob for supper.

Thursday 21st August 2008

On our final day, we got up and had our breakfast. We were supposed to have bacon and egg but the toaster and the cooker broke down, instead we had cereal, toast or a bread roll. I had cornflakes, a slice of toast and a bread roll. We didn’t have to wash up today because we used disposable plates. Our group had to collect everything because we were waitresses today.

Firstly, after breakfast, we got on with our tea towels. Mrs Fox and Mrs Badger quoted that I did exceptionally well because mine told a story of everything we had done.

Secondly, it was lunchtime. I had pasta and beans. I thought it was delicious.

While the rabbits and half the squirrels went on the climbing wall, us and the other half of the squirrels had to do the washing up.

Shortly, it was time to go. On the way to have our session on the climbing wall we went to the tuck shop. I brought a toy hedgehog and a squirrel.

When we got to the climbing wall we had to wear harnesses and helmets. We then took turns to have a go. I went up three quarters of the wall because it was too bumpy for me to go to the top.

Finally it was time to go home. We packed our things and went.

I’d had a GREAT time!
