Hire of 'Spirit of Guiding' -
Booking Conditions & Code of Conduct

BOOKING CONDITIONS

1. Each booking requires a deposit of £60

2. Plus a separate damage retainer cheque of £40 which will be returned on a satisfactory final inspection of the narrowboat.

3. Booking form & cheques must be returned to:

Cheques are payable within FOURTEEN days of booking. All cheques made payable to West Yorkshire West Guide Association Narrow Boat Account

4. A/A Forms must be sent to:
       Miss K Wilkins, 26 Beech Road, Sowerby Bridge, HX6 2LR
A/B Forms must be sent to:
       Mrs S Fielder, 48a Halifax Road, Todmorden, OL14 5QG
Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope with both the A/A & A/B Forms.

5. Notification of Arrival Time Form must be sent to:
       Shire Cruisers, The Wharf, Sowerby Bridge, HX6 2AG

6. The narrow boat ‘Spirit of Guiding’ is owned by the West Yorkshire West Guide Association and is moored on the Rochdale Canal behind the premises of Shire Cruisers (see address above) – tel 01422 832712.

7. No more than 12 persons to be on board at any one time.

8. ANY loss or damage MUST be reported and PAID FOR and the boat left in a thoroughly clean condition.

9. Hirers must observe pick-up and return times. If the hirer is unable to adhere to these times please telephone Mrs J Jowett – 01422 833010.

10. To arrange collection of the keys or if there are any queries during the period of the hire, please contact Mrs J Jowett – 01422 833010.

CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Obey waterways code, British Waterways bylaws & any instructions given by British Waterways personnel.
2. Be courteous to other waterways users – particularly regarding noise, conduct at locks & bridges, mooring, narrow passing places & fishermen & walkers.
3. Seek advice from BW personnel, or a member of the WYW Narrowboat Management Committee, if needed.
4. Protect the boat from damage where possible.
5. Report all damage/breakages/accidents to the Committee via Mrs Janet Jowett.
6. Report any malfunctions of the boat to Shire Cruisers.
7. Leave the boat in a clean condition, as you would expect to find it.
8. Take away all leftover food, cling film etc, that you have provided.
9. Undertake any necessary mechanical/visual checks at the beginning & end of each day.
10. Ensure the boat is secured when moored.
11. Be aware of safety hazards to all crew - especially at dangerous places eg locks.
12. Everyone should wear buoyancy aids at all times when outside the cabin, whilst the boat is moving.
13. No group of under 16’s should be ashore or in any part of the boat without adult supervision.
14. “Don’t drink & drive” – skippers should not consume alcohol whilst steering the boat.
15. Nobody to be on cabin roof or side decks (gunwhales) whilst the boat is on the move.
16. A competent skipper to be present at the aft end whilst the boat is in the move.
17. HAVE AN ENJOYABLE TRIP.
