Brownies and Rainbows Take Over the Tracks
Sunday 29th November 2009 Hundreds of Brownies, Rainbows and Leaders from Girlguiding West Yorkshire West boarded the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway steam train for a journey between Haworth, Oxenhope and Keighley stations. VIP guests included Liz Burnley, Chief Guide of Girlguiding UK and NEE Deputy Chief Commissioner, NEE Brownie & Rainbow Advisers. |
Liz Burnley, Chief Guide of Girlguiding UK, said:
"Currently a quarter of all eight-year-olds in the UK are Brownies. So it really is fantastic that some of those have had the chance to get together as friends and travel on board something so exciting. "
"In our centenary year we are proud that guiding is giving girls ground-breaking opportunities, although of course this is nothing new as we always have and always will put girls in the lead."
Angela Trowell, West Yorkshire West County Commissioner, said:
"We had another fantastic day for the excited Brownies and Rainbows of West Yorkshire West who continue to celebrate our fun packed centenary year with the great adventure of jumping aboard the steam express to meet Santa and his helpers and takeover the tracks of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway."
This event is one of hundreds of activities taking place across the UK between now and October 2010 to celebrate Girlguiding UK's centenary year.
