We've Changed the World!

4th Rastrick Rainbows

  ... go asthma trigger happy

with Asthma UK

..

We chose this project as all the Rainbows knew other children with Asthma.

We held a Rainbow Chat to discuss Asthma.  They have friends at school who have to carry inhalers and we talked about what it was like to have an Asthma attack – difficulty in breathing, coughing and wheezing.

We also asked the Rainbows if they could identify what could trigger an Asthma attack - they impressed us as they were very knowledgeable about Asthma triggers and could name nearly every common trigger (apart from cigarette smoke!).

We made an 8-page “Star Card” to remind the Rainbows about Asthma triggers and we played games.

.

We also held a Teddy Bear’s picnic and talked about dust mites.  They all thought they would be “very sad” if their teddy (or other soft toys) could make them ill so we explained that children with Asthma have to be very careful with their toys.

.

We then played some fast running around games “to make them puff” so that they could understand what children with Asthma feel like.

Two other Rainbow Groups joined us for a Christmas Party and we collected donations / sold hand-made Christmas cards / held a raffle to raise funds for Asthma UK.This was a good project for the Rainbows to be involved in as they all knew someone who had Asthma and could understand how difficult it must be for other children who have this illness.

.

We raised £60 for Asthma UK.
