We've Changed the World!

1st Mount Tabor Brownies

                     ... support WaterAid

We gave the Brownies information on each of the Save the World projects and asked them to discuss in their sixes which they would like to take part in.

The majority voted for WaterAid.

We then talked about how we use water and how easy it is for us in

the United Kingdom to get fresh water.

The girls completed a water chart for a week to see how much water we use.

They were surprised to learn of children their age having to walk,

in some cases, miles just to collect water.

The Brownies and leaders really enjoyed learning the 'Sing for Change' songs

and performed them at the Mini market to raise awareness of WaterAid.

We asked the Brownies how we could raise money to support WaterAid?

There were one or two suggestions but the favourite was a sponsored swim.

We took over Sowerby Bridge pool and the girls swam as many lengths as they could in 1 hour.

The non swimmers also took part by swimming or walking widths using arm bands.

Many parents helped in counting the lengths each individual Brownie achieved.

One Brownie was heard to say whilst getting changed “We have just had so much fun swimming in water and some people don’t even have any to drink.”

Rosie was the Brownie who swam the furthest - she swam 36 lengths!

In total we managed to swim 256 lengths which equates to around 4 miles!

We raised £140 for WaterAid.

The Brownies learnt a great deal from this project and also had fun raising money for such a worthy cause.

Well done girls I am proud of you all!
