How we Changed the World!

When our girls chose WaterAid's ‘Sing for Change’ all the leaders were delighted as it would be something really different to do at Brownies.

We listened to the CD and set about selecting and learning the songs

– we even did our Mother’s Day craft whilst we sang!

I say ‘we’ – but in reality Brown Owl and Tawny Owl led our excellent

‘Brownie Choir’ and I had more of the role of director/stage manager.

To learn 4 songs in 5 weeks was quite a challenge but we did it!

Much fun was had by all both during the rehearsals and in the

actual performance on March 25th to family & friends.

We even showed the WaterAid DVD ‘Splish, Splash, Flush’ – which the girls thought was hilarious in parts. This short film explains WaterAid’s work and the struggles that people in 3rd World countries face regarding water poverty, sanitation and hygiene – it’s a very informative film.

Our concert also included some short peoms the girls had written, snippets of facts regarding WaterAid's work and a raffle - all on a 'watery' theme.

We even had our concert filmed and the girls thought it was great watching themselves on the big screen the following week.

We raised £93.50 for WaterAid

I’ve been a member of Girlguiding for many years and I can truly say that

‘Sing for Change’ is one of my ‘Guiding Highlights’.

The resource was superbly produced and the content was EXCELLENT!

It really did help us 'To do our Best’ and ‘Help other people’.

Well done to all!

Some quotes from the girls:-

I enjoyed when I read my piece of paper and singing and watching the DVD about where people poo and I liked doing the actions of the songs. The song I like best was 'Living and Learning'.

Katie. (8)

I enjoyed the song '40 years on the iceberg' because I stood next to my best friend and I hugged her when it said I had to hug my polar bear to keep me warm at night.

Havishma. (9)

I like learning the songs and practising the dance moves. I also like singing '40 years on the iceberg' when we had to hold our polar bear. My favourite song was the African song 'Living and Learning'.

Chloe. (9)

In the practice I enjoyed it because me, Georgia and Havishma were doing actions to the music and it was funny and at the end we ‘struck a pose’. I really enjoyed it.

Lucy.A. (10)

The song I liked most was 'Living and learning' because it was fun doing the dance moves. I also liked reading my part in the show.

Geneva. (9)

I liked it when me, Havishma, Lou, Ren and Hannah held each other’s shoulders and swung it was amazing. It was good raising £93.50 and was a fun evening.

Georgia. (9)

I enjoyed doing the actions that I and Katie did. The song I liked the best was 'Girls together having Fun' and the DVD about poo.

Shauna. (8)

I liked it when we sang '40 years on an iceberg'. I also enjoyed presenting in front of an audience.

Caitlin. (8)

I liked it when we spun around singing Living and Learning and when we sang 40 years on an iceberg sailing over the sea.
