    Trefoil Guild

Hello,

My name is Dianne Greaves.

I became County Trefoil Chairman in March 2009.  I was so pleased to be asked especially as it is such a special time leading up to the Centenary and the activities both the Trefoil Guild and Guiding are arranging.  The six Guilds in our County are very active and we are so lucky as we have close links with the Guiding County.

I started Guiding may years ago as a guide in Halifax and gained my Queens Guide.  There were no Rangers where I was, so a group of us with our Guide leader started a Sea Rangers Unit. We went nowhere near water but liked the unifom!

I then became an Assistant Guider and in the mid 1970's became Guide Guider at 1st Northowram Guides.  Later I was also Camp Advisor and District Commissioner then Division Commissioner for Halifax North.

I have always loved the outdoors and international activities and Guiding has brought me so much.  A year wasn't complete without at least one Guide camp, and I took my unit a few times either camping or to Guide/Scout houses in Europe. Two highlights of my guiding were taking a UK group to Japan and a West Yorkshire West group to Virginia USA.

Not having any contact with water as a Sea Ranger must have been on my mind in the 1980's as I trained as a skipper for inland waterways. I was part of the group that thought of and raised funds for our County narrowboat.

My active Guiding days are now over, although I am still one of the County narrowboat skippers.

I was very honoured in 2008 when I was asked to be a County Vice President.
