Senior Section
|
“Over the last 2 years I have had the pleasure of getting to know all about Senior Section. I started up a new unit with girls, from different units, who wanted to stay on in guiding but had completed their time as a Guide. The variety of opportunities and challenges that are on offer to Senior Section members has enabled me to see girls grow into young women and keeps me enthusiastic and often excitable in my role.” Dawn Rogers, Senior Section Adviser |
A selection of Senior Section experiences from this year, have been;
• “World in One City” where all of Girlguiding UK’s units could go along to Liverpool and experience the City of Culture. Senior Section took part in workshops, then performed in front of 7000 Girlguiding members, had a Chinese meal, a disco and then slept over.
• “Now” A weekend to experience opportunities and share thoughts and ideas with girls the same age. This was held at Wynches.
• “Volunteering” opportunities within our community often arise and one was when we face painted at a neighbourhood day.

Some of our members are looking forward to;
• “Changing the World” Girlguiding UK’s challenge for its 100th birthday.
• A visit to Iceland in July as part of “Roverway”
• “4 Basic Training” A weekend to learn the skills to become an In4mer as part of Girlguiding UK’s Peer Education Initiative
Senior Section units can be run in a variety of ways. It all depends on the girls who make up its membership. Please ask how your local ones are working to find one to suit you.
Members of Senior Section are aged 14 to 25. (You become an adult member of GirlGuiding on your 26th birthday). Each girl can choose her own programme to suit her individual need, ability and timetable. Support and advice can be given to Guiders and Members on the following available opportunities:-
