Brownie Adviser

Hi

I’m Pamela Berry

and until recently I was the

Brownie Adviser for our county.

(At the moment no New Brownie Adviser has been appointed

- May 2010)

When I was Brownie Adviser I was deeply involved, throughout 2006-2007, in the evaluation of the Brownie programme - asking both girls and adults 'What were the best bits of what we did?' and 'Which bits would they change if they could?'

In September 2007 all Brownie Guiders in WYW had the opportunity to receive an update regarding the results of this consultation, the key points were:-

We should try to give our girls as many opportunities as possible to participate in unit decision making:-

Which game to play? Which theme to use for Brownie holiday?
  Which interest badge to do?

Whether small or large all their decisions will help to re-enforce our strap-line mantra of ‘Girls in the Lead’.

New badges were introduced which can all be achieved by a Brownie as she takes part in a varied unit programme.

‘Brownies Adventure’
'Brownies Adventure On’
‘Brownies was an Adventure’

New interest badges were added:-

Designer Brownie Skills

Fun

All the Brownie books were amended – with numerous revisions suggested by members.

The Brownie Promise Box now has a (much requested) handle and is a sparkly yellow plastic.

All the changes made as a result of the consultation process are a great example of how our Brownie programme can be kept fresh and relevant – by listening to what our members have to say!

We have now got used to using our revised resources and ALL are proving to be a GREAT SUCCESS!

The girls are making more decisions and many unit guiders have experienced an injection of enthusiasm for running their units!
